Bret Harrison, whose time on "Grounded for Life" is about to end, has found a new, somewhat more grown-up TV role.

Harrison will star in a comedy pilot for FOX about a recent college graduate who's the first among his friends to land a real job. Betty Thomas ("Private Parts," "Doctor Dolittle") has signed on to direct the single-camera pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show, which is being produced by 20th Century Fox TV, will feature large amounts of product placement as it tells the story of Harrison's character balancing his work and the slacker lifestyle his friends lead. Will Gluck ("Luis") and Pam Brady ("South Park") are writing and executive producing the pilot, and Becki Newton ("The Guiding Light") will play one of Harrison's friends.

"Grounded for Life," on which Harrison plays Brad O'Keefe, the neighbor and sometime boyfriend of Lily Finnerty (Lynsey Bartilson), will end its five-season run after 13 episodes this season. Harrison's other credits include the movie "Orange County" and a guest appearance on "The O.C." He's also signed on to co-produce a remake of "Revenge of the Nerds" with his friend, "O.C." star Adam Brody.

Thomas has won two Emmys in her career -- as an actress on "Hill Street Blues" and for directing on HBO's "Dream On." Her other directing credits include "The Late Shift," "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "28 Days."
